There are many facts about eyelashes that are known to each and every one of us. For example, as you already know that the top natural eyelashes are always longer than the bottom ones. The length, curl, and thickness of your natural eyelashes is genetic. The colour of your natural eyelashes greatly depends on the amount of melanin pigment they contain. The larger the amount of melanin the eyelash contains, the darker the colour.

All of these factors discussed above play a great role in choosing the right eyelash extensions for you. If not done correctly, instead of looking gorgeously fluttery, you could end up getting a lash extensions that is uncomfortably long or unpleasantly short.

In this blog, we describe different eyelash extension lengths to you guide our clients so that it help them to choose right length and curl for their eyelash extensions.

Eyelash Extension Lengths

In the eyelash manufacturing industry, eyelash extension lengths can range from 4 mm all the way up to ultra-long 30 mm. However, at most beauty salons, the most commonly used lengths are 7 mm to 15 mm. Based these lengths, we can divide them into different categories given below:

Short Lash Extensions: 5-8 mm

These short lengths are ideal for the inner corner or very natural looks. They are also used for bottom eyelash extensions.

Medium Lash Extensions: 9-12 mm

These are the the most popular and most used eyelash extensions. They’re ideal for the centre and outer corner of the eye, especially when clients have medium or short lashes.

Long Lash Extensions: 13-16 mm

This is the longest length used by most beauty salons. They’re ideal for the centre and outer corners on clients with longer lashes.

Very Long Lash Extensions: 17-22 mm

These extremely long extensions should only be used on clients with very long and healthy natural lashes who like a dramatic style. Most beauty salon’s don’t stock these lengths. Only for special occasions/requests, these can be arranged for applications.

Ultra-Long Lash Extensions: 23-30 mm

While some retailers sell these ultra-long extensions, however they are never come in handy.

How to Choose the Best Eyelash Extension Length?

There is a a rule of thumb for choosing the best lash extension length based on your natural lash length. This rule of thumb says that the best lash extension length is around 2 mm longer than the client’s natural lashes. This rule of thumb ensures that the extensions will still look natural without being too heavy for the natural lashes.

The lash artist’s usually use lashes in 3 or 4 different lengths to create your lash map. The most important factors to consider before choosing a length are the shape of your client are:

  • Natural lash length
  • Desired Style
  • Natural lash condition

Let’s take a look at each factor in detail.

1- Natural Lash Length

As discussed above, the ideal lash length for your client will never extend more than 2 mm past their natural lashes.

The natural lash line has its own length variation, so you can measure the extensions against the natural lashes as you work. Another important factor to take into consider is the distance from eyelid. That’s because the extension is not attached directly at the base of the natural lash. We leave a 1 mm gap so that the extension never touches the skin.

2- Lash Style

  • Natural: This style features shorter extensions that follow your client’s natural lash length closely.
  • Cat-eye: With this style, start with the shortest lashes near the inner corner and gradually increase length towards the outer corner.
  • Dolly eye: With this style, the lashes are longest in the centre and shorter at the inner and outer corners.

3- Lash Condition

If the client’s lashes are quite brittle, err on the side of shorter, lighter lashes. The healthier the natural lashes, the longer you can go, but I still urge you to stick to the 2 mm rule.
